python-forum dot-org? - treykeown - Jun-16-2023

Hey folks. I used to be a member of python-forum when this was a dot-org domain, many years ago. Looks like this might be the successor? If any of the old crew (ca. 2008) is still around, just wanted to thank you all for the community during some formative times.

Did something happen to the old site?

If this is an entirely different forum, apologies for the awkward intro, but glad to be here!

Cheers,
Trey

Not so many left me and @metulburr did most of the transition work from old site to this place.

Yes Admin(one person with all acess) did go missing or did not care,so we where left with no acess to server/database.
So to keep it going we had to move to new site/server.
Some discussions about what fourn software to use,i did run NodeBB as test for while, the votes fell on MyBB.
We also did change Theme Deviance Dark And Light a while back with help of the devloper @rainbb.

We all made a mass exodus and created this site as the old admin basically abandoned us and left us with random outages. At the time we desperately wanted the ORG, but by the time we had access to purchase it (years later) we already were established at IO.

There are a few of us around that were at the old site. I think all the admins here were at the old site. Some of the moderators too. Some disappear for a few years and pop back in. Myself included.

But after our debacle with the last forum we are dedicated to not let users feel abandoned again as we did. Instead of a solo admin with all the power we share access. All admins have access. And in the event that all admins disappear except one, that one should elevate a moderator or active long time user to admin and allow server/domain access so we dont ever repeat the past.

If I recall correctly, back then you had to enter python or PHP forum from the main page lol. I always found that odd. This is strictly python only.

I recently heard about a similar feature in Github, called «organizations». It allows repositories to have multiple owners to minimize the risk that a single owner disapears.
