AMD - Ryzen CPUs - j.crater - Feb-23-2017 There is a great disturbance in the Force recently due to AMDs release of Ryzen processors. Just a few of many articles about the subject: http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/2/22/14698284/amd-ryzen-7-desktop-processor-intel-competitor http://www.anandtech.com/show/11143/amd-launch-ryzen-52-more-ipc-eight-cores-for-under-330-preorder-today-on-sale-march-2nd https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/02/amd-ryzen-arrives-march-2-8-cores-16-threads-from-just-329/ What do you think we can expect from Ryzen and CPU market generally in near future? Great improvement in price/performance on Ryzen CPUs? Revived competition between manufacturers and thus more innovation in the area? Intel higher end CPUs becoming more affordable? RE: AMD - Ryzen CPUs - wavic - Feb-23-2017 There was time, perhaps it's not in the past, when the GPU was designed for higher benchmark results. I will wait RE: AMD - Ryzen CPUs - Larz60+ - Feb-23-2017 On sale at Microcenter today: Ryzen 7 1800X 499.99 Ryzen 7 1700X 399.99 Ryzen 7 1700 329.99 Additional $30 savings on compatible motherboards and $20 savings on qualifying video cards RE: AMD - Ryzen CPUs - Larz60+ - Feb-27-2017 Just read the articles you cited. The following is especially impressive: Quote:In a similar vein, again with the Cinebench 15 multi-threaded test, the Ryzen 7 1700X scores over and above the Core i7-6800K (its price competition) and higher than the Core i7-6900K which costs 2.5 times as much. the numbers were: 39% better than the Core I7 6800K, and 4% better than the CoreI7 6900K It's a totally new design, with two more in the works. I just may have to dish out some bucks. But need to wait for a Motherboard that can do it justice. RE: AMD - Ryzen CPUs - j.crater - Feb-27-2017 Benchmarks are impressive, I am now very much looking forward to independent tests on a wider scale. Then I expect to see what a typical consumer will get from new CPUs. I expect pre-built machines to be first to hit the market. Big players will want to be first to get a chunk of the cake. Ryzen may push me to finally spend some bucks as well. I have been putting off PC upgrade for a long time. For some reason I am somewhat able to stick with almost 10 years old Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz and DDR2 ram box. RE: AMD - Ryzen CPUs - Kebap - Feb-27-2017 Just for bringing Intel and Nvidia prices back to reality we should be thankful to AMD. RE: AMD - Ryzen CPUs - Larz60+ - Feb-27-2017 Quote:Just for bringing Intel and Nvidia back to reality with their prices we should be thankful to AMD. Argee - The price will only be about 40% of Intel's |
